Carbon Capture & Storage
Four Generation Bio-fuels are aimed at not only producing sustainable energy but also a way of capturing and storing co2. Biomass materials, which have absorbed co2 while growing, are converted into fuel using the same processes as second generation biofuels. This process differs from second and third generation production as at all stages of production the carbon dioxide is captured using processes such as oxy-fuel combustion[4]. The carbon dioxide can then be geosequestered by storing it in old oil and gas fields or saline aquifers. This carbon capture makes fourth generation biofuel production carbon negative rather then simply carbon neutral, as it is ‘locks’ away more carbon than it produces. This system not only captures and stores carbon dioxide from the atmosphere but it also reduces co2 emissions by replacing fossil fuels.

  1. Hi Syed, some good foundation research into biofuels and the evolution from 1st generation to present day. Good to see you are taking a broader view and gathering resources.

From our meeting the following was recorded; Currently undertaking biofuel general research with a view that this will be completed within 1 week. You currently feel that you are fundamentally on course as far as your Gantt chart plan and no significant problems have been encountered apart from limited resources regarding sustainable evaluation of biofuels, which we discussed. Target for next meeting was to have completed general biofuel research and have formulated a draft evaluation plan.

      • Hi Syed, all I’m looking for is a draft plan of how you propose to evaluate and analyse your chosen biofuels in respect of sustainability. I would also like to see at the next meeting what you propose to achieve over the break and up to the interim report submission.

  2. Hi Syed, just thought I would record our brief discussion from 10th December regarding direction of your bio-fuel research. Basically you were advised to evaluate current and historical bio-fuels solutions against sustainability criteria. Future solution scan be further evaluated and recommendations made.
